Stage Three

Final Payments, Building begins!
- Retain Fly-In-Fly-Out work. So I can build whilst back South, earn whilst North.
- (Possibly) Lease land for grazing until able to live there full-time.

- First: Aquire materials, equipment and deal with the bulk of the paperwork.
- Second; build small self-contained unit in the style of the main homestead. This will demo what the eventual homestead will look like, whilst allowing me to work out any foreseeable issues and improvements to be made to the main building. This building will then allow me to live in it while I build the homestead, and eventually provide income as a rentable, self-contained over-nighter for holidaymakers, or those looking to have a peaceful weekend away or even as a home-stay for back-packers to explore the country and to help with any labour requirements on the property.
- Third; Begin construction of main homestead, possible water dam (if required), fit very large water tanks, and gen-set until such time as I can supply my own power via wind/solar.
- Set-up facilities for self-sufficient food production, including small livestock, aquaculture, vegetables and fruit.

Methods I will consider in construction:
- Earthship architecture "biotecture"
- Straw-Bale design.
- Cob, earthen materials and wall coatings.
- Reclaimed materials: Bricks, Lumber, Steel, Glass, Fittings - If it can be re-used, then it will.
- Composting toilets.
- Passive solar design. Both for heating and cooling of the building, and to provide complete lighting for the building during the day time.
- Grey water use
- Water tanks to provide home water. (More)
- Self-generated electricity - predominantly solar and wind power, backed up by a diesel or (pref.) steam gen-set.
- The house will be only as large as need be. To keep it 'personal'. This will also minimize heating, cleaning, cooling requirements and help keep the 'stuff' levels down.
